펀글게시판 - 하늘과 땅 우유니 소금 사막 Sala de Uyuni 면적은 1만 2000㎢이다. 해발고도 3,653m의 고지대에 위치하며, 볼리비아의 실질적인 수도인 라파스로부터 남쪽으로 200㎞ 떨어져 있고, 칠레와 국경을 이룬다. 행정구역상으로는 포토시주( 州 )에 속하며 우유니 서쪽 끝에 있다. 세계 최대의 소금사막으로 '우유니 소금호수'로도 불린다. 지각변동으로 솟아 올랐던 바다가 빙하기를 거쳐 2만 년 전 녹기 시작하면서 이 지역에 거대한 호수가 만들어졌는데, 비가 적고 건조한 기후로 인해 오랜 세월이 흐르는 동안 물은 모두 증발하고 소금 결정만 남아 형성되었다. 소금 총량은 최소 100억 톤으로 추산되며, 두께는 1m에서 최대 120m까지 층이 다양하다. 우기인 12~3월에는 20~30㎝의 물이 고여 얕은 호수가 만들어지는데, 낮에는 강렬한 햇살과 푸른하늘, 구름이 마치 거울처럼 투명하게 반사되어 절경을 이루고, 밤이면 하늘의 별이 모두 호수 속에 들어 있는 듯 하늘과 땅이 일체를 이루어 장관을 연출한다. 사막 가운데에는 선인장으로 가득 찬 '어부의 섬(Isla del pescador)'이 있다. 예전에는 지역 주민들이 소금을 잘라 생필품과 교환하는 등 중요한 교역수단이었으나, 지금은 정부로부터 인가를 받은 회사에서 정제용으로 만들어 국내소비 에 충당할 뿐 지역민들은 거의 채취하지 않는다. 채취된 소금은 90% 이상이 식용이고, 나머지는 가축용이다. 순도도 매우 높고, 총량으로 볼 때 볼리비아 국민이 수천 년을 먹고도 남을 만큼 막대한 양이라고 한다. 소금으로 이루어진 거대한 사막과 호수 등 경관이 뛰어나 관광지로도 이름이 높다.
